Body found floating in the Friant-Kern Canal in McFarland

Monday afternoon employees from the Friant Water Authority were working on the Friant-Kern Canal, at the Sherwood Avenue Bridge, in McFarland, when they discovered a body floating in the Canal. Deputies responded and requested the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit respond to assist with recovering the body. Once the deceased was removed from the canal, deputies and the Kern County Coroner's Office inspected the body and did not locate any obvious signs of trauma or foul play. The case is currently under investigation as a possible drowning. The deceased was described as a Hispanic Male, approximately 28 years old.
