Vacant house burns down in Lamont

Friday November 28th at approximately 2:42 A.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department, for a structure fire in the 9000 block of Orvis Way in Lamont. 20 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident. Their quick action prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties and was under control in approximately 50 minutes. Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a fully developed fire in a vacant structure. Smoke and flames were billowing from the roof and windows. Fire crews searched the building and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to an adjacent property. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $150,000.00 of property. There were no reported injuries. The structure was vacant time of the fire and utilities were disconnected. The cause of the fire is determined to be incendiary. The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to remain vigilant around vacant properties and to report any unusual activities to Police.
